This school year was kicked off with orientation followed by our annual BBQ in the courtyard. Moms and Dads volunteered their time for planning, set up and working the grill as everyone enjoyed some delicious food on a beautiful day while reconnecting with old friends and meeting some new members of our Village School family.
Today is the first official day of school, and the courtyard was once again filled with families taking photos and students greeting their teachers and each other as they got ready to head off to their classrooms to get down to work.
Multi-age classrooms are one of the hallmarks of Montessori schools, so while many students are returning for their 2nd or 3rd year in the same room with the same teachers, other students are starting a new multi-year journey in a new program level. This means that often they are reuniting with classmates they haven’t seen in a year and meeting new teachers who they will come to know over the following years in that level. Students move to new program levels when they reach grades 1, 4, and 7. Third year primary students also have an exciting new part of their day as this year they get to spend half of their day with their primary class (many of whom are entering their 3rd year in that classroom) and the other half of the day in a class with other 5-6 year old students in our special Montessori Kindergarten program which solidifies what they have learned throughout their time in primary and prepares them for what is ahead for them when they reach Lower Elementary the following year. Among other things, kindergartners begin to learn more about time management as they take ownership over their schedule using a work plan for the first time. Time management is something The Village School values as an important skill that fosters independence and develops confidence.
Welcome to all our students and families. We are looking forward to a great school year!
