Three Halves Equal a Lot of Support for Kids
On Saturday, May 18, three Village School staff members ran in the Popular Brooklyn Half Marathon in order to raise money for Team For Kids, an organization that supports Rising New York Road Runners which brings free running and fitness programs to students across the country. This program allows children who might not otherwise have access to running or any other organized sport the opportunity to get some exercise and be part of a team. Funds help pay for coaches, supplies and incentives for students to join.
Marilyn Larkin (school director), Louise McMath (Development), and Stephanie Kim (LE Teacher) all participated in the 13.1 mile race that started at Prospect Park, ran through different neighborhoods in Brooklyn with supporting fans lining the route and ended on the boardwalk at the world famous Coney Island. Race finishers ran to the finish line to celebratory music playing and people cheering. After the race, runners were welcomed to an after party at MCU park to celebrate their accomplishment with food, music and other festivities.
Congratulations to Marilyn, Louise and Stephanie on this great feat and for raising over $1500 for Team for Kids!
