The past two weeks the technology department at The Village School has taken a break from its normally scheduled classes to work on a few very special projects.
In honor of National Computer Science week, every student from kindergarten to 8th grade participated in the global initiative “The Hour of Code.” Using a variety of coding games and programs, students got a taste of a variety of coding languages and an understanding of how computer programs work.
To round out their understanding about how computers work, Upper Elementary students worked to complement their new knowledge of software by participating in a “computer dissection” to learn about the hardware of a computer. Students were challenged to remove and identify each component and it’s function.
The children enjoyed both of these projects and The Village School has plans to incorporate more of both into the technology curriculum in the future.
