Lower Elementary Project 2018-2019
Australian Aboriginal Dot Painting
By: Stephanie Matesic
Aboriginal art dates back as far as 40,000 B.C.E. with the oldest art form being rock art, which included both rock painting and rock engraving. These artworks are on the rock walls of shelters and caves as well as on boulders. Aboriginal Art consists of symbols. These symbols were used as a means of communication; communication of their lives on earth, their rituals, food, customs. The Aboriginal people also develop their spiritual connection to Dreamtime through their art. Dreamtime is their spiritual belief of the creation of the world and the beginning of knowledge. The Lower Elementary students are participating in the study of different biomes, territories, and flags of Australia in the 2018-2019 school year.
