Fire Prevention Month
October is Fire Prevention Month. The Village School celebrated by having the Waldwick Firefighters provide a demonstration to the children about fire safety. Toddler and Primary had a close up experience while having the opportunity to sit on the truck. Learning about fire and being on the truck helped the students to gain a feeling of security and empowerment. This is an opportunity for the students to see the firemen in their gear, which helps them not to be scared but to recognize that firemen are there to help. The students became more aware of their safety in their environment specifically being independent, example: be on alert for changing smoke detectors and knowing when to stop, drop, and roll. The Lower Elementary and Middle School students heard important safety information and watched a video about techniques that they can use to help themselves in an emergency situation.
The Village School Run/Walk Club continues to stretch its legs on Wednesday mornings at 9am, leaving from the courtyard. Please join us any Wednesday through the end of the school year for this free and fun exercise session with other Village School parents.
We are getting excited to participate in the Waldwick 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk on Sunday May 4, 2014. Strollers are permitted during the 1 Mile Walk. Applications can be found online or can be picked up at the counter in the school office. The cost is $22 to participate with The Village School Group if you sign up before April 25th and $27 after that date.
