Middle School students off to a 3 day trip to NYC to meet with other students from around the world for the convening of the 2016 Montessori Model UN.
The Montessori Model United Nations Program was created to be a simulation of an actual UN General Assembly, including committees made up of students acting as delegates. Student representatives from spend the first part of the year researching a selected country so that they can represent that country at UN General Assembly in NYC. In 2016, The Village School will be representing Indonesia and the Dominican Republic, tackling issues from small arms trade and violence against women to ending epidemics and access to medicine in developing countries.
Maria Montessori supported the work of the League of Nations and its successor the United Nations as a forum where peace could be created. She recognized the hope for peace lay in the education of children.
