Meet Our New School Director

Laura Dykstra

The Village School Board of Trustees has named Laura Dykstra as the new Head of School, beginning July 1, 2021. Laura has been a part of The Village School staff since 1999, most recently serving as the lead lower elementary program teacher. 

“Laura has been a leading champion of students, and her passion for each of her pupil's success will continue as she dedicates her full time to advancing the quality of a Village School Montessori education. We are excited for the possibilities that she inspires,” says Mary Lynch, board of trustees chairperson. 

Laura holds a M.S. in education with a specialization in reading and literacy from Bank Street College of Education and a B.A. in elementary education and music from Saint Michael’s College. Laura has elementary I credentials from the AmericanMontessori Society, having trained at the Center for Montessori Teacher Education(CMTE). She has been a staff member of the CMTE and presented the geography curriculum for the primary-level training program. Laura lives locally in BergenCounty, NJ with her husband and daughter. 

“I am eager to build relationships with all of the Village School families in my new role as the Head of School. As we proceed in the new normal of a pandemic world, I look forward to making connections between the Village School students and the greater community outside our school walls."
