Who we are:

The Village School is a private, not-for-profit Montessori school educating children in programs from Toddler through Middle School. Students come from Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland Counties and range from ages 18 months to 14 years.

The Village School was founded on the principles and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, reflecting that each child is inherently unique, having individual talents, interests, and internal schedules. The entire environment of our school, both physical and philosophically, is designed so that each child can pursue the course which will best promote his or her development.

The Village School is accredited by both the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and The American Montessori Society. The Village School is also a member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools and the New Jersey Montessori Administrators' Council.

A quick history:

The Village School was founded in 1977 in Ridgewood, New Jersey as a private, not-for-profit corporation by Marilyn Larkin and Lynn Wasserman. Dadmara DeSantis subsequently joined Marilyn as executive director. Since its founding, The Village School has experienced constant growth, expanding first to several sites in Ridgewood, reuniting these sites in Glen Rock in September 1996, and then, after an interim year in Ridgewood, moving all programs into our permanent School-owned facility in Waldwick, New Jersey during the summer of 2002.

Additional information on our history can be found in the School History timeline.

Programs:

The Village School comprises 5 program levels:

Total enrollment is 300 students for the 2007 - 2008 school year. The student teacher ratio on the Toddler level is 5 to 1, on the Primary level 10 to 1, on the Extended Day Kindergarten level 12 to 1, and on the Elementary and Middle School levels 10 to 1. This enables teachers and students to develop close relationships that facilitate cooperation and insure that each child's learning strengths and needs are understood and addressed.

Program runs from September to June. Currently, no summer programs are offered.
