Lower and Upper Elementary class schedules:

Monday through Friday
8:45 AM - 3:15 PM

The Elementary Program is for children ages 6 to 12. It is divided into a Lower Level (ages 6 to 9) and Upper Level (ages 9 to 12). Class size is limited to 20 students with a student-teacher ratio of 10:1.

The program focuses on critical thinking, problem solving and cooperative learning skills through individual and small group instruction. Materials and presentations are designed to stimulate the imagination while developing the mastery of essential learning skills.

The interdisciplinary curriculum integrates subjects into a unified program of study:

  • History
  • Natural and Physical Sciences
  • Geometry
  • Mathematical Studies
  • Language and Reading
  • Foreign Language Instruction
  • Music
  • The Arts
  • Computer Studies
  • Physical Education

Mixed age groupings affords students the opportunity to work at their own pace, explore new challenges and develop their role as resourceful, self-disciplined learners.

The Lower Elementary Program provides an environment rich in concrete learning experiences. This level focuses on helping the child to develop a strong foundation in language arts, mathematics, and cultural studies (science, geography, history). Subjects are introduced through teacher presentation and small group instruction. Cooperative learning groups, individually assigned work, and peer projects afford children many opportunities to share and perfect their knowledge.

Student interest and curiosity form an important base for guided opportunities that help the child develop and practice reading, writing, and mathematical skills. Learning to balance assignments and personal work choices help students develop independence and personal responsibility.

The Upper Elementary Program reflects students' gradual developmental shift to abstract thinking utilizing specific curriculum and materials that help support this passage. This rich learning environment is responsive to varied individual needs and learning styles. Each subject area begins with a broad overview in which specific details are researched and added, creating greater depth and understanding. This approach facilitates critical thinking and open-mindedness in learning. It enables students to connect and relate content information more effectively within and across disciplines. On this level, students begin to take a more active role in the school-based community service activities, helping to see themselves within the context of a larger social scheme.
