Village
School Auction 2010
We'd like to
thank everyone who came out and supported The Village School at
our annual spring auction that took place on Saturday, March
27th. This year's theme was "A Night in Casablanca"
the event was held at the White Beeches Country Club in Haworth.
Our dedicated parent volunteers and chairpersons added to the
night's great success!
Village School Collects for CASA
Each year, all program levels at
The Village School in Waldwick take part in a community
service project. For the second year in a row, our Primary
classes have chosen to work with CASA of Passaic County.
CASA is an organization of volunteers that help neglected
and abused children, all of whom are in temporary care
situations, find safe, permanent homes. Erica Fischer, a
former Village School student is the Executive Director.
Through her we became aware of the important work this group
does in helping children who are in extremely vulnerable
circumstances. Many of these children lack even the most
basic personal supplies and CASA has limited resources to
provide for their needs. To help these children during the
holiday season, a gift collection was organized.
Primary students prepared boxes
and gift tags for the CASA collection. Families from all
programs participated by selecting tags and purchasing
gifts.

This community service project
is just one example of how one of the basic concepts of
Montessori education – fostering social responsibility – is
put into action. The Village School is guided by the
Montessori philosophy and believes it is fundamentally
important to develop a sense of community in and out of the
classroom by encouraging cooperative learning, problem
solving and service.
We Have a New Sign!
Our beautiful new wooden sign was installed on
October 13th.

SCRIP Fundraising
SCRIP (School Cash Rebate
Incentive Program) allows
The Village School
to purchase gift
cards to over
60 popular stores at a discount enabling us to
receive a portion of the sales of every card purchased.
We can
then sell these gift cards to you, our current parent body and
with your help, to grandparents, neighbors and our extended
community. There is great potential for our school to raise
thousands of dollars at no additional cost to the purchaser.
**Since September 2009, we've already
earned over $6,000 which goes directly towards the annual
fund.**
We all go grocery shopping and give gift cards
as presents throughout the year so participating is convenient
and easy.
Merchants include:
Kings, Stop N Shop, Gap, Staples, Borders,
William-Sonoma, Starbucks, Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Toys R
Us, Marriott, and many more!
